Compensation awaited the Alner camp however, as their other runner, EVEN MORE, ground down Stavordale Lad, getting on top on the long run-in to record his fifth career success. Without a win in over a year coming into this, he was given a fine ride by Walford, who crept him into contention and got a sustained run out of him down the straight. He is not getting any better, but is clearly capable of winning at the right level when in the mood.
Stavordale Lad is not the quickest around and his lack of finishing speed was again evident here, but he is usually on the scene and will always be a danger when the emphasis is on stamina.
Treasulier finished well adrift of the front three and has yet to win under Rules, but his previous efforts suggested finding a race off this sort of mark would not prove an impossibility. Message Recu travelled well, but was unable to go on when askedand continues to frustrate, while the well supported Tiger Tips Lad made too many mistakes and dropped away down the back.
