This was a fairly competitive handicap for the class, run at a modest early gallop, and the form appears fair enough.
KNIGHTON LAD, equipped with a first-time visor for this handicap debut, got off the mark over timber at the fifth attempt with a battling display. Considering he was hampered soon after the third-last flight he deserves extra credit and the return to a sound surface enabled him to finally show his true colours. His future hopes probably rest on the headgear having the same effect, but at least connections can now be confident he stays this far, and he should prove even better when sent over fences in due course.
Mayoun, raised 10lb for winning on testing ground at Chepstow last time, looked very likely to follow up prior to pecking on landing after the penultimate flight and was ultimately just held by the winner. While he must rate unfortunate, this was another solid effort, and he proved his effectiveness as regards underfoot conditions. He is also currently rated 9lb lower over fences and it would not come as a surprise to see him in that sphere before too long.
Ballistigo, markedly up in trip for this handicap bow, had every chance and turned in his best effort to date. He probably wants slightly easier ground and is up to finding a race when reverting to around three miles.
Amazing Valour was handy throughout and only cried enough approaching the final flight. He looks capable of finding a race from his current mark, but is not one to overly trust.Present Glory, who was very well backed, was still bang in contention before attempting to run out approaching the third-last flight, giving his rider no chance of maintaining their partnership.
