The Handicapper had an unenviable task assessing former French Flat staying winner TEMOIN, who had won an ordinary 2m novice at Plumpton on his only start over hurdles, and by the look of things he seriously underestimated him, for he won with an incalculable amount in hand. Despite taking a walk in the market, Temoin was always well placed, and when Oscatello went into a clear lead approaching the second last he had no trouble covering the move. He cruised upsides Oscatello between the last two flights, with Mick Fitzgerald oozing confidence, and needed minimal encouragement to take it up on the flat and win very cheekily, with his ears pricked. His only Cheltenham entry at present is in the Supreme Novices' back at 2m, and winning a race like this off 110 still leaves him a deal to find in a race like that.
The winner's stablemate Brankley Boy was a respectable third under top-weight, ahead of Absolutelythebest, who stayed on and showed improved form on his handicap debut after three fairly undistinguished qualifying runs.
The rest were well beaten, headed by Here We Go, who was also making his handicap debut and stayed on at one pace from a poor position, having been under pressure near the back of the field down the back straight. (GD)
