Turpin Green had his measure going to the last only to put on the brakes and nearly refuse, virtually coming to a standstill as he jinked left, allowing Napolitain to land running and take three lengths lead wearily up the run-in. While Turpin Green has to have a query over his temperament for that, he deserves equal praise for building up a head of steam after virtually coming to a standstill after the last to nearly wrest the prize. That strongly suggests the step up to 3m will suit. He has proved his class with a Grade 2 win over hurdles and is open to considerable improvement as he matures. He makes more SunAlliance Chase appeal at the 33-1 offered by Hills about both principals with Paddy Power seeing it that way in going 16-1 against 25-1 Napolitain but both look to be playing for minor berths there on a line through The Listener.
The performance of Stance depends how Albuhera has been adjudged to have run. Stance was left behind three out and is not overbig for chasing.
Albuhera looked off his game, not jumping or travelling with his usual exuberance to be beaten by the end of the back straight. After his busy end of year, this was his first run in 39 days and he may prove it to be all wrong. (BJ)
