There appeared to be no worries about the stamina of OSSMOSES and he put up a brave staying performance to score in convincing fashion, and in fairness to him nothing should be detracted from his effort. He was having only the 13th race of his career so there is likely to be a deal more to come from him. And while Aintree will not be on the agenda until next year, the Midlands National is a possibility this term.
Model Son, who had disappointed last time, was having his first run for Patrick Haslam here and he ran a fine race, having been up there from the outset and keeping on well enough to cope with all but the winner. He seems effective on all sorts of ground.
Sir Rembrandt was the only one really able to give chase to the first two to whom he was giving a deal of weight. He jumps for fun and having run well last time too, and having twice been placed in Gold Cups, he is finding his best form again.
Tyneandthyneagain never got in a blow, but plugged on for fourth beaten a long way. It was his second run following a 22-month absence and he may still have something to offer.
Double Honour's rider needed a medal for keeping him up there until just over a mile to run when the battle was lost.
Ebony Light was never going either, he did not jump off with the rest and seemed to sulk from then on and he hung right throughout as if perhaps something may have been troubling him.
Going down the back straight for the last time it looked as if A New Story might get into it, but he was done with soon after turning in and he called it a day at the last.
Joaaci was left fourth at that point, but he was a long way adrift and he took a heavy fall, but happily he was only winded.
Eurotrek was beginning to struggle with two miles to race, while What A Native, who was on a five-timer, did not appear to be entirely happy over these fences.
