The 155-rated hurdler had lost his confidence when last running in chases but proved with this display that he is well-handicapped and although seeming to lose momentum on the top turn, was soon in the A1 position again as his jockey Timmy Murphy hugged the inner. Level with the game Kittenkat four out, he shook offthat persistent challenger at the last and then held a renewed thrust to score in a driving finish. His connections have had a new door opened and it remains to be seen whether they adopt a dual-purpose campaign with him.
Earl's Kitchenreserves his better efforts for this track and has returned to form with the assistance of a tongue strap. He plodded on for minor honours but, like the tiring Fox In The Box and Lord Brock, was no match for the winner's touch of class.
Fox In The Box ran well for a long way and appeared to appreciate his first-time visor, but Lord Brock found his weight telling after being switched wide at the first in the straight.
