Rosemauve was taken into a clear lead on this comeback after 413 days off and it looked like paying off as he had all bar the winner in trouble down the back straight. He kept battling away remarkably well after his long absence, but the handicapper has hit him hard for his defeat of subsequent Grade 1 winner, Carlys Quest, and he looks set to struggle off this much higher mark.
Golden Bay was only 50/50 to race again afer ripping ligaments off his pelvis and straining his hock, so this was a fine training feat to bring him back to win after nearly a year off. She won readily enough, to suggest she can follow-up in similar company.
Heron's Ghyll, another back over hurdles, also raced prominently, but struggled over this longer trip.
Although his wins have come in selling company, Kings Castle was disappointing as, after hunting around at the back taking a tight inside-rail run, he failed to pick up for pressure as the race developed to lose his unbeaten record at the track.
