Stamina was at a premium in this long-distance maiden, which played to the strengths of CANAVAN, a relentless galloper who basically stayed better than his rivals and had this sewn up from the top of the hill. He should continue to pay his way in run-of-the-mill races at stiff courses over extreme distances and in testing ground.

Matmata de Tendron finished with a bit of a flourish after the last to take second, but was never any danger to the winner.

Barrons Pike made much of the running but did not help his cause by continually jumping to his right.
