Neither of the principals look exactly keen to exert themselves with Avanti Tiger noticeably turning his head around the sharp bends, while Graffiti Tongue was on and off the bridle through the strongly run race.
When ahead and with nobody to bother him, he pinged the last and looked set to win by 20 but was eased as Avanti Tiger was kept going. Connections feel he is seriously overrated on a mark of 110, but as he clearly toys with his rider through his races, and the further he goes the better he seems to go, there must be grounds to believe this veteran can win an open handicap.
Lavenoak Lad did his chance no good by flattening a few hurdles, notably the third last when battling away up front. That and this being his seasonal reappearance took its toll but he too can be placed to win a seller on this evidence.
