HAUT DE GAMME is well suited by soft ground, and though slightly hampered four out, came back into the race strongly in the straight and was ridden out to score. This was his first success over hurdles in this country, but it is something of a bonus for him as his objective is the National.
Killing Me Softly came into the race in good form, and though 14lb higher than when winning last time at Uttoxeter, seemed to turn in a career best insecond. Although he's not going to find life easy off this sort of mark, he goes well in the mud and it would be no surprise if he were find another handicap.
Vicario is high in the weights now, but The Bajan Bandit, who made the running, was still travelling well enough when he crashed out at the fourth from home.
