The winner has struggled since winning at Newbury last March and was put back over hurdles last time, when he was a creditable third, but he clearly appreciated the good gallop, which set the race up nicely for him and allowed him to finish strongly, as one would expect of a horse who has won over 2m3f in the past and who goes well in the mud.
Kalca Mome, let down by his jumping at Chepstow last time, was more fluent on this occasion and, after getting a bit outpaced three out, he ran on strongly from the home turn for a very respectable second. However, he is not especially well-handicapped these days and is proving difficult to win with.
Madison du Berlais, a French import who struggled to cope with the stiff Haydock fences on his recent British debut, handled these obstacles with more fluency but, having made his bid for glory four out, found himself run out of it by the more patiently-ridden Tanikos and Kalca Mome in the closing stages.
Feel The Pride, handicapped right up to her best form and on ground that was much slower than ideal, was far from disgraced, but she is not going to be easy to place off her present mark.
