Umbrella Man travelled well in rear and made headway down the back straight, but he got going all too late and was arguably given a bit too much to do. He does not win very often, but a slightly more positive ride in future will at least give him more of a chance.
Woodenbridge Dream was disputing the lead with Corroboree from an early stage and went on when his rival blundered early in the back straight, but it was clear from two out that a place was the best he could hope for and he battled on to regain third place from Spinaround. Thelatter was a little unlucky when unseating four out at Leicester on his chasing debut last month, but looked set to gain compensation here when going to the front two out. However, Lubinas soon had his move covered and a blunder at the last ended his chance. Racing here off a mark of 80, it is only a matter of time before he strikes.
Favourite First De La Brunie, shouldering a 7lb penalty for winning easily at Wincanton last week, was beaten with fully a circuit to go and threw in a rather moody display. He has a bit to prove after this.
