Armariver, able to race off the same mark as when first past the post (subsequently demoted) at Cheltenham on New Year's Day, had every chance but was just held. This was an opportunity missed as he will race off 7lb higher in future handicaps.
Red Moor was shuffled back as the field bunched on the approach to the home straight but stayed on well up the run-in to claim third. This was his second run after a break and he should be spot-on next time.
Back at two miles, Cantgeton showed something of a return to form. Sticking to the inner throughout, he was impeded by thefaller at the last but his measure had already been taken. Equipped with a tongue tie, Broke Road ran well considering he was up with the strong pace throughout and that this was his first run since an outing on the Flat in September. Silver Prophet ran his race but will remain beatable from this sort of mark. Sir Brastias, appearing for the first time since landing a novice hurdle in September 2004, made an error at the last flight in the back straight which left him with work to do. The return to a longer trip will suit him. Atahuelpa, having his second run for the yard, gave the impression that he is capable of better. Spike Jones, raised 8lb for his good second at Taunton, was in the process of running another fine race when falling at the last. He had to be switched going into the flight, but was staying on and would definitely have been placed at least.
