An impressive debut over British fences for MORT DE RIRE who had caught the eye of experienced paddock judges beforehand and proved well suited by the step up to this trip. He was settled in nicely a few lengths behind the leader from the start and his performance was marked by his ability to jump well throughout. He was asked to go on three out and quickly asserted as kept on strongly to score a comprehensive success. He had run well without scoring when trained in France and three miles and testingground could bring further improvement from him.

Monte Vista was given a patient ride after taking a fall two out at Lingfield last time and came there to have a chance over two out but simply could not live with the winner. He should have had hisconfidence boosted by this effort and he certainly looks capable of winning over fences.

Alderburn got no further than the first and The Dark Lord is another who needs to regain his confidence.
