WILLIE PEP, who cost 27,000gns and is related to winners on the Flat andover jumps, needed all of McCoy's urgings to get up in the straight, but duly did so to make a winning debut. He looked ready for this, and had a fairly hard race, so may well need time to get over these exertions. However, he clearly has a decent engineand will be suited by a stiffer test in the future, so connections look to have an exciting prospect on their hands.
Hennessy, impressive when winning on his debut at Uttoxeter in October, showed a decent attitude and only just missed out under his 7lb penalty. Like the winner, he did not appear too happy on this tight track, so should be rated as the best horse in the race and it will be interesting to see whether connections persevere with him in bumpers.
Classic Fantasy, a 76,000 euros purchase who is a half-sister to high-class two mile chaser Central House among others, ran a race full of promise and was only run out of contention late in the day. She looks a sure-fire winner of a similar event.
Picts Hill, a brother to bumper winner Rye Brook, was doing his best work at the finish and shaped as though he would improve a deal for the experience.
Templer showed no signs of trouble at the start this time and looked to run his race. He is ready to tackle hurdles now.
