Former fair Flat winner Whispered Promises has recovered his enthusiasm since being switched to hurdles and ran a good race. He has an official mark of 132, but that may be on the high side and he is not going to be easy to place now.
Albarino was taking a big step up in class after dotting up here off 107 in a handicap. He was a bit keen, and after travelling well again under restraint he failed to pick up appreciably from the second last.
Prolific Flat winner Compton Bolter, a Group 3 winner in September, was coming to hurdles very late in life, although he evidently schooled for the first time several years ago. Although he faced a stiff enough introduction, his class ought to have made him a contender if he took to hurdles and there was not a great deal of encouragementto be had from this.
