WAGES was given the ride of the race, sitting right off the pace before making stealthy headway from halfway. He shook off a mistake in the back straight to cruise up to lead only at the last but was then pushed right out to reflect his superiority.
Avadi sat midfield and beat the rest well enough, but was eased in the final 50 yards having got very tired from the last, surprising for a horse who has been running well over further.
Apadi made a brief effort starting up the hill before getting bogged down, but Uncle Max was making a big move to dispute second when getting rid of his jockey at the last in the back straight, strongly suggesting he would have had a say in the finish.
