CARAMAN, a fair 2m hurdler on his day but well below his best when last seen over jumps, had run a fair third on his only previous Flat outing, here last March, and he dug deep in the straight to hold off the frustratring Newnham, who went right under pressure in the straight and had to settle for second spot for the fifth time in his 12 starts.
Candarli, second in a 2m3f handicap hurdle at Taunton back in November, plugged on for a moderate fourth and might appreciate a stiffer test.
