An open-looking claimer, but not many got into it as SOBA JONES, Shadow Jumper and Ariesanne dominated from the start and kept the rest at bay all the way up the straight.

Soba Jones had not won a race for two years, but he travelled really well throughout on this occasion and battled all the way to the line to record his second course win. "Everything has to drop just right for him," said trainer John Balding of his winner, "and the pace was there for him today."

Shadow Jumper did nothing wrong in second and will win in his turn in this company, while Ariesanne stepped up considerably on her previous form and now has to show that this was no fluke.

Ben Casey, whose running here in November resulted in a 16-day ban for Paul Eddery (which he is appealing against), got squeezed out early, looked far from keen when shown the whip in the straight and trailed in last.
