A smashing performance from BURNT OAK, who confirmed the promise he had shown when winning at Doncaster with a most engaging display. Although very cheaply bought, he is now a valuable commodity, having earned black-type with a win that was hallmarked by a top-notch turn of foot that took him to the front and then clear. Also impressive was the fact that he so quickly overcame an interrupted passage at the top of the straight to then put his stamp on the race. He is evidently a top bumper performer, but he would also be fast enough to win a Flat race proper.
Dark Corner, who possesses a proper jumping pedigree, will be better when he gets to hurdles and fences.
Apart from the winner, nothing finished faster than Golden Streak, who came home at a rapid rate of knots. He ran with credit, as did Sword Of Damascus and Hakumatata, who has more scope than some of his rivals. [LM]
